Pros

The pay was better than average.

Cons

I have never had a worse work experience than I did at Riot Games. I was constantly degraded and condescended by a co-worker. When I finally had that employee go behind my back to tell another employee that I had a problem with them (which I did not) that caused them to confront me unnecessarily. I finally stepped up and told our manager my concerns which he then used as an opportunity to talk about my personality and how it was frustrating that I mentioned my family at work sometimes and that I made funny comments sometimes. He also stated I didn’t fit the Riot Games “culture.” I also had another employee ask me to do something that was not in my job description when I simply explained I didn’t feel I was competent enough to do it he called me a inappropriate word and stormed off. I love playing online and console games because I consider myself a nerd. In high school I was picked on for being a nerd. I felt comfort in gaming and assumed working for a game company that caters to “nerds” I would be safe to be myself. Instead I was constantly put down and harassed. HR never stepped up to help and I was taken to a back room and told that I should quit or they’d fire me. I felt like I was back in high school being picked on again working at Riot Games.

A downhill slide

Pros

Free food Clear passion throughout the company for the products and players Good benefits

Cons

Low competitive compensation Abysmal management from the middle up The worst HR team you'll ever work with Riot is struggling to find its place. There are some issues typical of growing pains like poor management and some bloated teams. The real issue is cultural. The bro culture is in full force but has begun to insulate itself in the shadow the #metoo movement. Lots of political maneuvering takes place, especially by low impact persons in power. There's also nowhere to go with your career at Riot. If you want to move up, you need to wait for someone to vacate a position because there just isn't any new business at Riot. Why? Complete paralysis in decision making. The current stable of games, the poor state of diversity, the lack of new products and sliding growth come down to paralysis in decision making.

Pros

Great benefits. Really good compensation. Beautiful campus and generally nice people - for the most part. Relative automonomy given to teams that can be good for a while.

Cons

I wish the company practiced what it preached. The feedback culture seems great when it is sold to you as a candidate but once you are immersed it becomes suffocating and paralyzing. Meetings are a constant. Meetings about meetings. Discussions about doing without ever having time to do. The games during work sound great but make focus very difficult. Add in the open "no office" environment and it is not a surprise that things take forever to complete.
