Ambitious company

Pros

CEO really understands the product and customer, and still runs payroll himself at the current company size. Platform has enabled many teams and ex founder types to rapidly go 0 to 1, building out a fairly comprehensive suite of products. New CTO "gets it", renewed focus in infra and platform, performance and reliability.

Cons

Python monolith is starting to show some rough edges, but devx is becoming a strong focus. Breaking out some services in golang, and increase investment in module/app isolation.

Pros

Clear product / company vision A sense of urgency and buzz at the office / day to day Good salary No nonsense culture of getting the work done Things are evolving quickly and company / people are adapting Company is hiring senior leaders from other good companies to grow

Cons

Fast growing startup with need for improvement to process or structures A de-emphasis on some startup perks (compensated for in cold hard cash to employees) Strong business culture of building a company (not a family company or culture of work is your family)

We're not in the 2000s anymore, people

Pros

Great compensation and equity incentives for employees. The product has potential.

Cons

It is a well known fact that empathy is not the current CEO's strong suit. In fact, for those of us in leadership, we were told that his lack of empathy is supposedly his "superpower." (red flag) He also believes that trust has to be earned, which means every employee starts with zero trust (bigger red flag). The title of my review is in earnest - gone are the days where grinding for the sake of looking busy brought accolades and recognition. In a post-pandemic world, people have lives to lead and families to take care of. Rippling does not support either; the fact that they do not provide paid family leave for an employee if they have a child within their first year of employment is borderline barbaric in today's workplace culture. In a hustle culture like this one, burnout is inevitable and job security is never guaranteed. My bottomline advice: Don't drink the Kool-Aid.
