In 2019 Riverside Healthcare began hemorrhaging money when they hired too many surgeons but were not bringing in enough surgeries. They were 100% focused on running Amita St. Mary’s Hospital and Oak Orthopedics out of town but their wars on those and other local healthcare institutions were not going well. They struggled to move people to the digital medical record system that would keep them exclusively referred to within their system, and their urgent care locations were unable to survive more than a few months at most locations. 2020’s COVID-19 pandemic provided Riverside with a cover under which they could cut their employee base by hundreds, including staff that had been there for decades, to save their sinking ship. In the same year they even went as far as constructing a new building costing millions of dollars on the graves of the employees they sent to the food banks during a global pandemic. If the system even survives the mess that it has become, I would never consider returning there as an employee. Job security is hard to come by anywhere, but there is none at this establishment. This is an organization that does not live by its values.

I am honestly shocked that this hospital is still even open. The working conditions are deplorable and the way nurses are treated here is disgusting. Working nurses like dogs, 13+ hour shifts usually with no lunch break or at the very most maybe a 5 minute “break”. Dangerous nurse patient ratios, then calling off or sending home nurses as soon as the census hits a certain number to stay within budget. Morale was extremely low, very punitive environment. It was not until I took a position at a different hospital that I realized just how terrible Riverside is. Please do yourself a favor and consider working elsewhere. This place is dangerous and a lawsuit waiting to happen
