Pros

Rivian's product is pretty amazing. People working on the ground are highly motivated, hard workers, and determined. Good pay.

Cons

Rivian has the most toxic leadership that I've come across in the last 10 years of professional engineering. My experience echo's others. Their leadership is focused on putting up road blocks, injecting unnecessary bureaucracy, and surrounding themselves in an echo chamber. My senior manager was unable to let anyone on their team execute their job without micromanaging them. His actions felt discriminatory to me and the other woman on the team. When I tried to address these concerns up the chain of command they fell on deaf ears. I had a senior director tell me I was being a drama queen. Come to find out that not only was it me and the other woman on my team, these behaviors were echoed from other internal teams as well as external resources. Their leadership fails all the way up to RJ if they are unable to hold lower level leaders accountable.

Great for the pay in a dead end job

Pros

Pay is good for what you do and it’s a decent stepping stone. Benefits are pretty good.

Cons

Every thing. It seems to be a common theme in almost all departments that the wrong people are in positions of power due to who they know and not what they know. Asking valid questions about the idiotic decisions that the senior management team has made will get you black listed from their inner circle. In my department if you didn’t come from Apple then you were dead on arrival, good luck thinking you’d ever get anywhere other than your current position. Many coworkers who are paid a much higher salary are given a pass from their daily responsibilities due to knowing the right people and brown nosing their way in. Hard work is NOT recognized here, you may get a pat on the back and be told that you’re valued here, but pay stays the same while the manager’s inner circle gets all the promotions while contributing very little to the team. The time off is severely lacking, hourly employees are second

Just Don’t Do It

Pros

Pay rate (with overtime) Health, dental, and vision insurance is very low cost

Cons

Micromanagement constantly No sitting at all unless you can get a dr note No cell phone use (but also your phone is your work device so not sure why that is) You will be standing around doing nothing a lot because line is down a lot but they still expect you to act like your busy so investors touring plant think we’re doing better than we actually are as far as production Not confident this place will exist in even 2 years so job security is nonexistent Battery area is insanely high risk (batteries go thermal at least once a month and every time that happens it’s like of like a bomb going off in your face)
