There are people in this company who lack responsibility – countless times I’ve had conversations with people and they have been unable to provide a reasonable or immediate response for things within their control. For a lot of people in the business, if something does not affect their variable remuneration, they will disregard it.
There is poor work life balance – the business, with over 200 employees globally, has established itself as an experienced tech company, moving past the start-up phase. Despite this, it is under-resourced in certain teams and people get worked to the bone. Focused on testing and experimentation, recruitment is emphasised on hiring engineers, whilst the other functions are left to fend for themselves in a start-up environment.
You work long hours and most of the time it goes unseen – it’s difficult to find time for projects when you’re performing BAU tasks for 12 hours a day, let alone find the opportunity to use the training allowance for career/personal development.
Not everyone is intelligent and driven – some of them work hard to make up for it, but others have big egos and just take credit for someone else’s work. There are managers who don’t stand up for their own staff and like any other workplace, it’s all about connections.
Staff are not valued and supported – people in leadership / management positions listen to your concerns and complaints, but most of the time they don’t bother taking any action. They are just out for themselves and wait for you to cut the ties.
