Fine for a year or two

Pros

Fine for a year or two, not much more. Organization is mission driven and the benefits are decent.

Cons

Claim to offer generous pay but it is below market. If you ask, they claim there is a company they use to tell them what a position is worth, but they won’t share information about what your job is being compared against or anything. Zero salary transparency even if you’re applying internally. You could complete the interview process only to then be told the salary is less than you’re currently making. Very little room for growth unless you want to apply to be on a different team/department. Promotions are pretty much nonexistent. I know people who have been here for 10+ years and have never been promoted within their role despite continuous positive performance reviews. Depending on your department it can be extremely toxic and draining. Managers and supervisors are not given proper training on how to manage people. There is a significant lack of support from the top of the organization if your department isn’t considered a priority. There was an open position on my team for over 10 months and the director of my department would not allow it to be reposted. Then I ended up doing that job on top of mine. I became so burnt out that I started taking more wellness days. Then after taking maybe 8 in 5-6 months I got an email warning about taking too many. Communications from members of the People and Talent (HR) team can be very dismissive, abrasive, and tone deaf. For example, when asking about the IL state law requiring companies to reimburse a portion of employees home internet usage when required to work from home, I was informed by HR that I could “choose not to work and not get paid.” Overall the organization is way too volunteer driven. This causes priorities and strategy to shift yearly. Will put resources into all the stuff these high up volunteers want, but can’t pay staff decent salaries or give them more than a 3% cost of living raise each year.

As with any partnership, we understand the importance of both parties investing the time and effort to make the partnership successful. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work out. Out of over 800 employees who worked at home during the global pandemic, we had one employee demand to be compensated for home internet. We offered to provide a company-paid wifi hot spot, but that was rejected by the employee. We offered the employee the option to return to the office, but that was also rejected. We have repeatedly explained how compensation is set using external market data from multiple compensation survey sources to conduct external equity analyses along with internal equity analyses. It seems that the content of our responses for this reviewer were never satisfactory, and a contrary response was perceived negatively. While we’re disappointed by that, we understand it. As with any crowd-sourced review platform (Yelp, TripAdvisor, Glassdoor, etc.), we look for patterns and trends. We’re thrilled that a tremendous majority of our employees would recommend Rotary as a great place to work. For candidates reading this review, please don’t be discouraged. We welcome the opportunity to show you what it’s like to be part of our amazing team at Rotary! - Global People and Talent Team

Great Place To Work

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Rotary is a supportive, collaborative and appreciative place to work. Employees truly care about Rotary's mission and work hard to promote the good work we do. Senior Leadership is very supportive of employees with great work/life balance. We are currently undergoing a major digital transformation, bringing new opportunities and new energy to the organization.

Cons

Rotary is a non-profit, so salaries are not as high as some other places. However the benefit package is great with many health options and a very favorable 401K contribution approach.

Thank you for your feedback. We agree that Rotary is full of talented and passionate people that want to drive its mission forward. We couldn't accomplish all of our goals and create lasting change in the world without their dedication. It's important that these talented and passionate people are not only valued, but feel their value in a variety of ways. Some of the ways we do this is by ensuring that Rotary provides competitive pay, generous wellness benefits, and above market paid time off. We also want to empower our people leaders to utilize the various resources and support available to them to make sure they are reaching their potential. We've identified leadership attributes for each position that are necessary for success, provided different leadership courses (in-person/online), and have developed a mentorship program in order for people to connect and learn from one another. We hope that all our people leaders will take advantage of all the amazing resources available. - Global People and Talent Team
