      Pros

      Many chances for middle-management advancement and experience with software and hardware that may be difficult to gain experience with in a larger or smaller company.

      Cons

      Silos and entrenchment. Usually faculty head departments and major positions. Because faculty are not managers, it makes it very difficult sometimes because they go from faculty positions to managing hundreds or thousands of people. Very little chance for advancement beyond a certain level. Salaries have been flat with rising medical costs and inflation. As benefits erode, the bets people have and will leave.

      the benefits were great as were the co-workers and the research work was very interesting.

      Cons

      Depending on who the boss/supervisor is it can be a living hell and medical school faculty tends to be merciless.
