Pros

The healthcare and dental benefits are great. They give ample amounts of sick leave and vacation time. If you are unionized, the job security is very good.

Cons

The payscale for staff is a bit low in comparison to comparable jobs in the corporate sector. It used to be counter-balanced by a lighter workload and more flexible hours, but since the budget cuts the infrastructure has been damaged by loss of many workers and a lack of organization to compensate.

Pros

There are plenty of reasons to work at Rutgers. One of the more prestigious University systems in the country, it manages to straddle being a state school with more of a feeling of an Ivy. And for me, it is conveniently located.

Cons

As a part time lecturer, you do not qualify for full time worker benefits, such as health care. My department loves my class, but only needs it once a year. So I'm forced to cobble together other teaching work elsewhere.
