Not the best place but not the worst place.

Pros

The university heavily supports scientific research. There is a good research environment that has been built to encourage cross department collaborations.

Cons

The bureaucracy at the university is immense. It is very difficult to get the things done when help is needed outside of your own department (i.e facilities, HR, etc).

Pros

Learn new things and explore new fields. Get to work on latest trends in market. No need to freak out, Wonderful work culture.

Cons

No proper plan. Lot of self motivation is required. Getting permissions for some of the work can be time consuming.

Pros

Rutgers has a large community of scientists with lots of resources and collaboration across disciplines. Professors whom I've known there have been among the tops in their respective fields but usually have not let it go to their heads. Working with them has generally been like working with colleagues on the same team. Most of the campuses are green and beautiful.

Cons

Rutgers is very large and spread out over several sprawling campuses that surround and dwarf the city of New Brunswick. Therefore, if some of your colleagues are on different campuses, it can be logistically difficult to get together with them regularly for meetings and seminars. However, a majority of the science and engineering labs are consolidated on the Busch campus, and the agricultural (some related biological) research groups are consolidated across the Raritan River on the Cook Campus in close proximity to the agricultural experimental station.
