Pros

As a safety intern I worked at the NJDOT in Trenton. I was exposed to their Bureau of Traffic Engineering and Investigations and their many projects and procedures. So far, I have worked on some very interesting projects. Supervisors were very knowledgeable and serve as mentors. As an intern, they make sure you are learning on the job

Cons

Took long to get setup. Didn't have a computer for about a week and was therefore was unable to do any of the work that required a computer. After computer was setup, software needed to get installed. Needless to say, IT seems to be slow to respond.

Pros

There was a significant amount of training that taught skills usable and applicable for future purposes. Salary was good, when considering job requirements.

Cons

I had a very positive experience. The only foreseeable downside would be in regard to giving promotions. Consultants who would work at satellite labs received little recognition.

Pros

- Great vacation time--I had three weeks as a first time employee (also, during Christmas week, the whole campus closes and employees are given the time off) - Amazing retirement plan: Rutgers contributed 8% of the employee's salary while I was there, and the employee can contribute up to 5% - State health benefits - Friendly coworkers

Cons

- Work can be monotonous - Lots of politics on the departmental level
