Good Business, Bad for Employees

Pros

The business model is actually spectacular for the partners as well as the clients. I felt that the customer delivery experience truly does exceed most others in the space and firm. The value billing vs. hourly billing proposition makes a lot of sense for them and allows the firm to focus on true issues for the clients rather than the attempt to just generate hourly fees.

Cons

There is an above the law mentality within the firm. I don't have an issue when this translates to being a better advocate for clients (although watch out for opening a can of worms for audits). The same mentality translates to how they treat employees. I know of one past employee who they fired and denied unemployment for. He would have been able to fight for it, but they used scare tactics to prevent him from doing so. This mentality is used to prevent you from ever touching their clients. Non compete is general practice, and in general not enforceable. They use scare tactics and politics stating that all disputes must be resolved in Texas (they have huge amounts of political control) which isn't actually legal. It's just in the contracts to scare people. Unlike traditional accounting firms they aren't held to any real standards of ethics.

Great CEO But Some Challenges

Pros

CEO is extremely smart and a dynamic leader. As long as he is at the company, they will be in great shape. The best in the business at what they do. Would hire them them in an instant. Never been part of a company that was so completely focused on customer service and success. MyRyan is a great program and strongly supported by the CEO. Company is expanding rapidly and appears to have an extremely bright future. If you are on the service delivery side and you are good, there is a lot of room for advancement and compensation growth. The CEO is very available and actively solicits feedback. He may not always agree with comments, but he is always welcoming of them, considerate, and respectful. Business casual dress policy. CEO has high morals and it's reflected in the organization.

Cons

Not all leaders support MyRyan in the way they should COO seems to be more interested in things like producing a podcast than actually doing things that will have a meaningful impact on employees. Also, can be just insensitive and rude to employees. While I really like the head of the People Group, I'm not sure he's made as much progress with the culture as he should have. Feel like at times he's distracted by his personal branding (e.g. book tours, speaking at conferences). While culture is touted as important, it always takes a back seat to financial performance. You can be a terrible manager but if you are driving revenue, all is fine. Work/Life balance can be a challenge because of commitment to customer success. It's often tough to take a vacation without having to deal with work issues while off. Sometimes senior management (e.g. COO) treats employees in support areas as 'expenses' as opposed to valued resources.

Pros

Ryan is the best place I have ever worked since moving to Arizona, and that was 22 years ago. Every company I have worked for in the past does not come close to the generosity and integrity that Ryan shows to their employees time and time again. Family oriented. The open door policy, and the most important key, "TEAMWORK"! It's a great place to work. I'm proud to be part of the Ryan Team.

Cons

I have worked for Ryan for a year now, and to be honest, I have not seen any downsides of working for Ryan.
