Pros

This is a nimble, fast-acting organization with a highly involved and transparent leadership team focused on ensuring that every employee's voice is heard and efforts are rewarded. Senior management spends an unprecedented amount of time seeking new ways to incentivize employees at all levels in areas beyond just revenue production. Community outreach, self-study, and team-building are all encouraged and rewarded, resulting in a more cohesive team environment. Everyone seems to have a vested interest in the company's growth. I am certain there is no other tax advisory firm in the world that has a CEO who out of nowhere will ask his team to reach a goal and upon doing so, will gladly share a quarter of firm EBITDA with everyone...and then commit to doing the same thing the following year! This is an exciting company to be a part of and that's no small feat for a tax firm! Benefits are also unmatched. There's not a single benefit that's not made available to employees. Furthermore, the firm is a leader in providing workplace flexibility. As long as you're producing results it doesn't matter where you're doing it from.

Cons

Some policies and procedures are tailored to the firm from its younger days and can be improved, but there is a laser focus on identifying those problems, listening to feedback and making changes. In the last two years alone, first-class, third-party software has been implemented to ease the administrative burden on service delivery team members.

Pros

Offers a great deal of flexibility. CEO truly strives to make it the best place to work while providing best in class service to our clients. If he believes there is an area where our service or are benefits are lacking he seems to make it his personal mission to fix it.

Cons

Tax compliance comes with long hours around the deadlines. However, this is industry-wide and not specific to Ryan. The biggest Ryan-specific problem is that all employees, particularly certain members of management, are not on board with the vision. This has a lot to do with large acquisitions and employees who are accustomed to a different way. Over time these employees are slowly moving on to other places.

Pros

Before joining Ryan, I'd heard about the exciting culture, committed employees and saw their ever expanding presence in the market. They were winning deals and taking names. I was evaluating a higher base salary at another firm or a good salary plus a potentially higher bonus plan with Ryan. All other benefits being pretty square, the variable was me. I took a leap of faith - on myself. I went with my gut instincts and my only regret, 4.5 years later, was not doing it sooner. 1) A highly engaged executive team that is accessible, (truly) cares about employees, listens and takes brisk action when necessary. (This makes a real difference. Changes at big 4 are painfully slow.) 2) Ryan provides a perfect balance of market presence and resources coupled with unmatched high growth. The result is an environment which allows for talented individuals to thrive and grow. 3) Hands down - the best work environment. My experience at 2 big 4 firms and one small firm (200 people) provide good perspective. Please do not underestimate the importance of this factor. Work and life, for me, run hand in hand. It is critical to make the right decision. If you are considering a role at Ryan and you believe in yourself the choice is clear.

Cons

Growing pains are a natural course of a high growth business. Ryan is implementing systems, updating software, hiring the right professionals to manage how prospects and targets can be allocated to best serve the firm. The con is that this takes some time to work out the kinks, get it right and then get everyone on-board with the new processes.
