Pros

At the end of the day, what matters is the students. They are what will keep you going. There will be hard days and there will be amazing days. I remember the amazing days with my students a lot more than the hard ones. Very diverse staff across the board.

Cons

Lots of work for little pay (which is to be expected with Americorps, but you are still below poverty level) Depending on your site, the school may view SAGA as a "babysitter" where they can place kids they don't really want to deal with. This isn't to say the students are bad. Rather, it can be frustrating to see your students not get the right resources that they need.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. It’s important that we hire and retain high-quality job candidates, that’s why it is unfortunate that was you did not have a good experience with your supervisor. We prioritize professional training and development with all of our staff, and we will make sure to reflect on the quality and frequency of feedback so that Fellows can thrive in their roles. Even so, we are happy to hear that you built positive relationships with our students and that you connected with our mission to accelerate educational equity. As an AmeriCorps member serving for Saga, you receive a stipend and a comprehensive package for your gap year that is both challenging and rewarding.

We are glad that you had a good experience at Saga Education. As a Saga Fellow, you are committing to a year of service to accelerate student outcomes and create more equitable learning for students. For those who are interested in taking a meaningful gap year or service opportunity with us, we believe the rewards of impacting our students’ lives are immeasurable. On the other hand, it is unfortunate that you did not have a good experience with management. We prioritize professional training and development with all of our staff, and we will make sure to reflect on the quality and frequency of feedback so that Fellows can thrive in their roles.
