Pros

I wish I could say something nice. But I know that they are very calculated about whom they put in a role to make it appear that they are being "diverse" and "forward thinking".

Cons

There are some many things to hit on. Firstly, the students are not being correctly assessed and prepared for the stat exam. The organization makes tests that only assess student proficiency from K-8. The materials used for the tutorial are extremely sub-par, and that does not include the rampant errors in it. The course material isn't rigorous or staggered to meet the varying educational needs of students. They love to send people to visit who are actually spies who report things back to upper management. They even convince some tutors to report information up the chain. Additionally, the CEO visits and tells the students that he is the CEO as though it means something to them. Oftentimes, the students are not always elated to be in the program because most schools see it as a non - academic course. Thus, they don't benefit all the time due to the credit system in their schools. There are tutors who are not even proficient in the material who are instructing the students, which is risky. The CEO regales people that the tutors work for the opportunity to work with students and make a different. But the salary is very underwhelming to say the least. I am surprised that tutors feel motivated to come to work each day, when upper management has the funds.

Pros

Tutors and site directors are amazing and really great to work with and you can tell that they really care about the kids. Great gap year job since it is full time. Plenty of resources to help get students engaged in learning and not too restrictive if you want to go outside of those resources, although this could vary from site to site. Site directors are also very helpful in planning lessons and giving advice on how to deal with difficult students. Building relationships with your students throughout the year and watching them grow.

Cons

The pay is very low and you are stuck with their terrible health insurance. Also the pay is hourly so if there is no school (winter break, spring break, etc.), you aren't getting paid. Misleading about which schools you can choose to work at. At the end of training you are randomly split into two groups of schools, and then you pick your top 3 choices from the group that you are placed in. I got lucky with location but some tutors did not. I would not have stayed if I had to spend 3+ hours of the day commuting. You are constantly being evaluated. This is both a pro and con. It's a great opportunity to improve your teaching and to seek advice on how to help students who are really struggling or really resistant to being in class, but it can get a bit annoying week after week. Management is a bit overbearing with parent communications, training and "professional development", and constant surveys. Students at new sites are chosen at random and some of them really don't want to be there, which can get frustrating on some days.
