Pros

Kids were great, you definitely make an impact on them. Coworkers are nice and passionate.

Cons

Everything else. Pay and treat you like slaves, HR has no idea what they're doing EVER. It takes weeks to get a response for basic questions. Curriculum team never has good ideas in response to important questions. The content is usually sub-par and not proofread. Often we need to re-implement over and over because of stupid mistakes they make. And even after I stopped working there, they continue to make my life a living hell. As soon as you're no longer an employee, they treat you like you don't exist. Shut down your email immediately without notice (I had important documents in there sent to me that I can't access??), don't respond to your emails, don't tell you about your students' scores or grades which they said they would as soon as they were obtained. I'm now working at a MUCH better education nonprofit and Saga refuses to verify my employment for my background check even though they have been in contact with the hiring team. WHY? You guys are so lazy or incompetent you can't complete a simple task?

Pros

The kids we work with are really nice. The school was okay but they did not seem too supportive as we were an organization inside their school.

Cons

We are expected to do so much in so little time. Many high school students were on a 3rd grade reading level and we had to bring them up to high school level

Great service year

Pros

I loved hanging out with my team and building relationships with my students and their families. I really feel I had a big impact on the academic performance of my students and that’s exactly why I decided to join.

Cons

The pay is low, but this is expected because this is a service year/ gap year opportunity. I looked into several gap year opportunities before joining SAGA and the pay was always on the lower end .Some AmeriCorps programs only offered $12k during the year.
