Pros

I have worked at SAM for over 4 years in the Dallas office. The upper management and project mangers are great. They allow us to do our job without being micromanaged. Every Wednesday some sort of breakfast is brought in (tacos, donuts, etc.), and the admin staff coordinate a semi-regular monthly catered lunch.

Cons

I can't think of any cons. It really is a great place to work.

Pros

SAM is a very competitive, forward-thinking company. The owner invests in the newly developed R&D department to help keep us on the front lines and cutting edge of the industry, which is a rarity in the land surveying industry. I have not witnessed the "good ol boy" system here that I have read about in other reports. This is a very fast moving and competitive company which is hard for some to handle, which may be the cause for some of the negative reviews.

Cons

Company recently sold 60% ownership to Austin Ventures. This is not necessarily a negative if the company keeps moving in the upward direction. SAM has done a great job with keeping the company environment the same, however, there will always be changes with mergers and acquisitions such as this.

Pros

Variety of projects and latest technology and software.

Cons

Equity investor ownership means all that matters is profits. Negotiate the highest salary possible. Be wary of offer that includes a bonus as investors and senior leaders get their bonuses before anyone else. Offices in other states and regions frequently go into neighboring states and regions to get their sales. Runs more like a bunch of individual companies than one cohesive unit.
