Pros

People you will work with are very easy to get along with and the company has some nice perks including generous time off for paternity leave and a company owned resort that you are allowed to utilize. In terms of pay many positions are at or above market level and in most years there is profit sharing. The company takes part in a lot of activities to improve the overall general welfare of the community (back packs with school supplies for school children, Earth day clean up, etc).

Cons

The company culture has changed dramatically over the last five years from one that was focused on people and relationships to one that seems to be a carbon copy of other large consumer products companies. Many managers and senior level leaders were brought in from the outside which has resulted in many talented people that built the company being pushed aside, let go, taking early retirement or leaving the company out of overall frustration. The company is currently going through a restructuring that is still in process.

Pros

Pay/benefits, strong relationship-based culture, strong encouragement of work/life balance, access to different living alternatives (e.g. Chicago, Racine, Milwaukee).

Cons

Somewhat of an inferiority complex...if competition does something they must know something we don't; culture recently changing with significant downsizing - cuts were needed but these may be too much too fast

Pros

Work-life balance. In most cases, decision-making was pushed down to the level where it mattered most. Resources needed to do the job were always made available. Frequent opportunity to interact with Sr. Mgmt. Sr. Mgmt. was very open to employee input.

Cons

HR at SCJ (like most companies) is a joke. They talk the game of being concerned about employees very well, but HR never actually walks the walk. Too many first-to-market opportunities are lost by too much emphasis on getting products to "perfection." Too many times, competitors have gotten to market first and locked up the biggest market share because SCJ was too busy pursuing a small potential point of superiority.
