Pros

Some great folks working hard there, spectacular history and family feeling at first. Great level of inclusion at lower levels. Great Chairman, Fisk Johnson.

Cons

The Chairman just simply cannot get people to behave or change. I have utmost respect for him but the management team is mostly a nightmare. I witnessed some of the worst management decisions I have ever seen in my career. The VP level are almost all back stabbers and the cutthroat behavior is rampant. The IT organization is has an autocratic leader who openly disingenuous. Looks great at first but run the other way. HR leadership is ineffective.

Pros

It did have a warm and paternal culture, a culture where the people mattered and the goodwill of the people was everything. Overall, very friendly people to work with, the people below the senior management who do all the work, work hard. Good facilities for parents and children, excellent access to the gym, recreation activities.

Cons

The culture of the company now has changed not evolved to what made SCJ a unique place to work. People do not seem to matter, working excessive hours with little if any recognition for the work. Recognition, promotions have not been consistent, and employees are left with not knowing what as an individual you need to do to be recognized or what is valued. Racine, the location is a downside, for recruiting the best talent - small town not diverse and not much to do. Diversity, through so much change and reorganiztion, the company has lost the diversity of people from different cultures and backgrounds either by self exiting the company or asked to leave.

We're sorry you feel the culture at SCJ has changed too much. As we come through the organizational evolution of the past few years, some ways of operating have certainly changed. But we absolutely want to retain the spirit of goodwill and respect that has always been fundamental to SCJ. We think we have, but we will take your feedback to heart.

Great Intentions - Terrible Execution

Pros

Private family held company. Fisk. Gene, and the rest of the family truly seem to care about the company and the employees.

Cons

* Externally hired executive level managers are complete hypocrites. Ridiculous demands, no respect for employees or work/life balance. Current view of working level employees - with very little understanding of the business and regulations, they made promises to Fisk they cannot keep. Every day is a new fire drill - complete with a firing squad to bury today's scapegoat. * No empowerment to make decisions below executive level. Projects continue long after no one on the project team believes in them. * No consideration of available resources - no new project is too low a priority. Lack of focus is perpetuating the lack of true innovation projects as creative resources wasted on fixing past issues (lack of documentation, splintered non-global oversight, new internal regulatory limits, etc). * No decisions ever certain - too many zombie projects. Project killed one day, revived months later. * Teams dinged for not following new processes - when the demands to bypass them come directly from executive level decisions.
