Pros

Great benefits such as top notch day care center, great maternity and paternity (yes!), on-site gym, telecommuting policies, summer hours (work enough hours Mon-Thu, take Friday afternoons off), competitive compensation, etc.

Cons

In recent efforts to improve efficiency, what used to be a very unique family company culture is being eroded by incoming top executives from top CPG companies who push the SCJ to be competitive. Long commute for Chicago area employees.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. We definitely want to keep the unique traits that make SCJ a special place. We have to be competitive to ensure SCJ is around long into the future. But we hear you on the importance of finding a good balance.

Pros

Great people and brands but things are changing drastically and many people are now leaving the company for other opportunities.

Cons

Significant layoffs in Racine impacting the ability to get things done. With additional folks leaving, resources are stretched too thin and those of us remaining are overwhelmed.

Pros

Strong brands, good place to learn the industry and if you're young and MOBILE in sales then there are opportunities for you here. The company is going through a lot of change right now, I think it will take several years for all the kinks to be to be worked out from the last restructure but I do believe SCJ will be in a better place moving forward as a result of the changes.

Cons

Taking away work from home benefits unless you live over 20 miles from office. Taking away company cars for lower level employees (analyst level). Recently demoted several positions along with a restructure. If you're experienced in sales and come here it's going to be tough to grow - there is not much movement for upper level account management because people don't want to move. Company is trying to change this but it's tough. Beware of joining customer marketing with the promise to be promoted out of the category sales management position. There is POTENTIAL to be promoted out of that role, but I think too many people join the company and think that it's a guarantee they will be promoted in a few years. In reality, very few people get promoted out of that job, you'll most likely take a lateral move to an account team once something opens up (which is not often). I see lots of people get "stuck" in customer marketing for years longer than they intend to. Also many external employees join the company in sales first through customer marketing, that's because not many internal candidates want to join the department.... Moving toward "open work space" environment - could be a pro or con depending on your work style. Upper management does not understand workload levels of employees - sales teams are unbalanced with some teams having way too many people without much work to do and other teams barely able to get by with a team of 2. Management hiring a lot of external talent which gives the impression that management does not think current employees have strong capabilities. Company going through a culture change after a restructure - employee morale is very low. It appears management knows morale is low, but isn't doing much about it?
