The Great Resignation at SC Johnson

Pros

- 401k - Medical Center - Childcare - Concierge - Summer hours and Christmas shutdown

Cons

- Most employees are doing 2-3 jobs to cover our Great Resignation. There is no thank you or recognition. - Employees are burnt out, becoming more negative, lacking drive. - Management+ openingly share they don't have decision making rights. - Trust, empathy, empowerment, career development have been stripped away. - Forced PMP distribution buildt on leadership favoritism. - Doctor approved medical reasons to WFH during pandemic are denied. - Sr. Leadership is never seen outside their offices. - It used to be a culture that hired people who sought innovation, asked questions, led change by data and had empathy. Those individuals are now leaving the company. They are frustrated and defeated because leadership doesn't value their need for positive change. Leadership wants employees that don't question any of their demands. - Strategies are built, but projects are put on hold for the latest fire a leader has. It's busy work to help leadership win their political battle amongst their peers. - There are no action plans for exit interviews, employee opinion survey or any other surveys conducted this past year.

A disappointment

Pros

JMBA and Lighthouse Resort are great perks, pay is great especially for the Racine area. The environmental programs are impressive.

Cons

Had high hopes for this company, but it turned out to be a very negative experience. HR department is totally unhelpful. Software is so out of date it's laughable. Work from home policy is nonexistent. My team was OK , managers could use more training. I did hear the PR department is horrible and employees are frequently belittled, so word of warning there.

Buyer Beware

Pros

Some great people still here. Compensation is ok. We had some good times before things fell apart with Covid.

Cons

Where to begin? -This is not a consumer driven company. So many projects are driven by the whims of senior leaders or unfiltered asks from our customers. I can't tell you the number of products we've tried to launch where we don't have a real understanding of the consumer need. We don't properly test new products with consumers, we just build something and go sell it in without hard data. Our R&D process is basically just seeing what tech exists in the market and then deciding what we think we can sell. - We are so focused on short term results. Budgets are cut to ribbons to deliver the number rather than prioritizing long term business health. - Career paths are a total nightmare. Marketers are asked to either 1) switch between Chicago and Racine offices for rotations which requires a brutal commute or 2) accept cross functional roles in shopper/customer marketing or sales in order to move up. Like your brand role in Chicago? Tough luck, because you won't get more than 1 rotation there. - If you live within 10 miles of the office you will be forced to be in the office 5 days per week. The company has faced unprecedented attrition over the last 6 months and has made it clear they won't ever change. Uncomfortable in the office during Covid? Too bad because we are back! - Performance evaluations and rotations are based on a culture of favorites. You can have strong performance evals but still be out of the inner circle. On the other hand, if senior leaders love you, all rules about jobs being posted for open applications and minimum time in role requirements go right out the window. - Morale has never been lower because we can't deliver the basics right now. We can't produce and ship enough product and we are rapidly falling behind our competition.
