The elementary students were wonderful, but the micro-managing and bullying of teachers creates a toxic environment.

Pros

The benefits are good and the pay is okay...

Cons

...but paychecks are mostly spent on classrooms and supplies. There’s no support for teachers or help for violent students who end up back in the classroom after repeated attacks on teachers and other students. Teachers are not valued, and so many great teachers have left for this reason.

Inner-city teaching has its perks and hardships.

Pros

The city of Savannah is a good place to live, work and play. The difficulties of teaching here make it a great stepping stone to other local careers dealing in education, training, and management.

Cons

Too many higher-ups and management changes leave teachers and teacher leaders unsure of what the district is looking for. Unrealistic learning/performance goals for students.
