Pros

Great company reputation. High quality corporate resources in many areas. Most employees are high performers and team players. There are really wonderful people at this company.

Cons

Company is struggling to adjust to the changed market. Most of its business processes are dependent on a much higher personnel count. Schlumberger is a results and metrics driven company that focuses on compliance to process not in interpersonal leadership. At the same time, Schlumberger has dramatically reduced its headcount in the past few years. The result is that the employees that remain with the company are doing the work that once belonged to three or four people and then are being told their performance is mediocre or poor because they are not delivering the same results. Managers in Schlumberger will claim that a strong leadership environment is a hallmark of the company. But what they mean by this is that are extremely detail oriented goal setters, that will ruthlessly adhere to those goals regardless of the circumstances - goals which are attached to your income and permanent HR recorded. As a result, the top managers in Schlumberger are coercive and short sighted who are reluctant to invest in people.

Pros

Met some way smart and nice people but they are long gone.

Cons

Past 10 years have lended a staff of young "Smart" punks in heat to back stab anyone as they hope for some type of advancement. Attitude of being #1 makes them way down the ladder of innovation and quality. Long time known in industry to be behind and lower pay everywhere known except at SLB sites. Once upon a time a company that respected employees and their families.

Pros

Spent time in Europe, Middle East, Australia and USA in first 4 years, which was awesome. The work is challenging, but you often work in a team that is like family. You will get dirty in the field and move your way into the office and then sometimes back in to the field. The training is top notch.

Cons

The market took a big hit, but is slowly coming back now. There is often high expectations which require overtime work. Difficult to balance family and work. Sometimes it seems like every month you are learning a whole new skill, which can be tiring.
