Great company for the short term

Pros

-Large, global company -Industry leader in services, quality and size -Can perform jobs in locations, at depths, and conditions that other companies simply cannot -Entry level and first several years of promotions are part of a fixed step path -In the same sense, very good company to start your career with. Excellent training programs. -Always hiring! (for a reason) -Very friendly towards women and minorities -Accommodating towards dual SLB couples (must be married/legally joined) -Expect to move around a lot if you are willing, otherwise you will just stay where you are

Cons

-Long history of bleeding talent that eventually goes to work for the competition -Work/Life balance - varies per group -Politics rule promotions above management level. Executives are usually hand picked early in their career (6-10 years), so you know by then where you are headed -Shooting ourselves in the foot with excessive policies. Every time there is an incident, our solution is another checklist, and it has gotten to the point where we have a couple of initiatives to reduce this paperwork. -Company need is always first. You put Norway, Indonesia, and Italy in your preferences? How about Sudan? Sudan it is! -HR can be a very strong enabler... or not (common in any company)

Pros

- good benefits, smart people to work with, you get to move into different positions (though subjective)

Cons

Lot of management layers, unstable as there are a lot of lay-offs due to the fluctuations in the oil prices
