Pros

Perfect middle ground between working for a giant corporation and a small start-up company. I've never had any major worries about job security, and most of the people are hardworking, friendly, and easy to get along with. Starting pay is generally competitive with regional market rates. My manager has always been very understanding with time off for family reasons.

Cons

Annual bonuses are presented as part of the compensation package, but rarely materialize. Vacation policy could be more generous, and promotions can be few and far between. Work-life balance varies depending on your position.

Pros

SPX has been working hard to create synergies within their resources, brands and customers. This transformation does have some growing pains but it is for the greater good of the company, the employees, the vendors and customers. Specifically with ClydeUnion Pumps, the company rolled out a new sales incentive program and a non-compete agreement. This was not to negatively impact anyone or any jobs, but simply to be consistent across the company in how all employees are paid and would actually provide a better base level compensation program. The non-compete is also standardized within SPX, as well as where the industry is trending. Successful companies invest a lot in their products, services, brands, employees and a non-compete agreement protects those interests, but does not prevent a person from growing their career elsewhere. There are just stipulations in which to do so. SPX certainly values it's employees, all 14,000+. Please know that reviews on Glassdoor are not always accurate and many are submitted by dis-gruntled former employees. To get a realistic perspective, give us a shot and see for yourself.

Cons

Again to the transformation culture that is going on currently at SPX. In any company, there is change and sometimes people are scared of change, but may realize after the fact that change has created jobs, created efficiency, created business and created growth. I am sure, like every company, there are opportunities to improve and that is certainly a goal at SPX. It really is hard to please everybody, but we try to create and maintain a great place to work and encourage growth and development in managing ones career.
