Good Stepping Stone into a Real QA Position

Pros

As a former employee I do have to admit that the company is great for getting someone straight out of college with no experience to a industry ready level. While an employee is a trainee they will gain insight into how the QA world works and how to better their skills in Manual testing and automation. The environment is also friendly and most of the employees will make you laugh and smile. An interesting benefit they had while I was there was to have a learning session of about 1 hour every Wednesday. These sessions could range from learning the basics of a programming language such as Java to financial advice.

Cons

While SQA is a great place to start to learn basic rules of QA, I would not recommend staying in this company very long unless you can get into a higher position. The pay compensation of this company is well below industry standards and while the raises seem like large increases every 6 months, they still do not compare to a QA position outside this company. Benefits are also lacking as the employee is only given medical. Most other companies I have been apart of have given employees medical, dental and vision benefits as a base level package. Also, the employees of the company are made to use a software developed by the company and while this software was innovative and made QA easier long ago, the current state of this software leaves the user in a perplexed state. There is a large list of bugs associated to the software and some of these bugs can be a deal breaker. They are also slow to adopt the use of other softwares in place of their current software, even when other softwares have been proven to work better and perform more overall tasks.

Pros

- Free lunch on Wednesday - Employees you work with on a daily basis are nice

Cons

- Management micromanages everything - Small slip ups (i.e. having a typo in an email, or showing up 10 minutes late due to an accident) are blown out of proportion and you get called out in front of everyone - Little to no benefits - Management is never on site. To elaborate on this, there are 3 sites for this company. 2 are where you will most likely be working (aka the LA and OC office). The 3rd is an office that is all upper management, very little communication to the other offices. - Majority of upper management are family

sinking ship

Pros

You can learn a lot if you are self motivated to do so. There are some helpful and experienced workers there but they are usually the ones looking for a new job. Free lunch once a week.

Cons

CEO cares more about his favorites than anything else. No clear path for advancement, only vague promises of a partnership program. Once you go on site there is a large disconnect with the rest of the company and it is not something management works on, I got one meeting with them in 9 months.
