Pros

* Benefits * Connections * Work/life balance in some departments * Learning how energy works from inside a utility

Cons

* Not truly supportive of women or minorities. Token female Associate General Manager. CEO thinks he has enough females in the BLT (Big Leadership Team) but is unwilling to perform metrics on female representation or female salary inequities. Heavily male-dominated culture. Women, no matter how many degrees or experience, you can expect to still be asked to do 'admin'-type chores for the group. They FINALLY instituted a maternity/paternity leave policy. This is 2016 and it should not have taken this long to institute that. * People who are not performing are not given consequences in any way. It is acceptable to management to have some very low performing people (who will surf the web all day or maybe show up for 7 hours instead of the 8 or 9 they should be putting in) all the while letting harder working employees take up the slack. On top of that, the people who are surfing all day get invited to strategic meetings because of their 'seniority' and tribal knowledge. * Politics: you can be blacklisted if you make a mis-step, so watch out! The culture is one of gossip and fear. Directors will not 'rock the boat' because they are afraid for their jobs. Innovation is not something you find here. If you come up with great ideas, it is an uphill battle and you are lucky if anything happens with them. * Compensation: don't expect a great salary or even good increases. * No career paths and little to no help from management to develop yourselves. (certain managers will do this but are very few and far between).
