Pros

Good organization. Well liked company with good co-workers. Most managers were friendly and helpful when needed. Colleagues were great, although a little too social at times.

Cons

Nothing really stands out as being bad about SRP, other than the extreme socialization that often takes place. I felt as though some people were there to chat and have fun rather than work.

Pros

Families: Many managers believe in a balanced life. There is a work life and a family life. They try not to intrude on the family time. Many coworkers have relatives working here too. Some people have met at SRP and got married. It isn’t easy to get in at SRP, but once you’re in and you do a good job you can stay in until you retire. This place is a stable place to work.

Cons

There are office politics, but that is common at the other places I have worked. Some processes also seem to have a lot of red tape. Though this is a gut feel as I don't have any data to compare it against.

Pros

You can have a job for the rest of your life. The pay is generally fair market. The culture is difficult for a lot of people to get used to. Most people have worked there for >10 yrs and it is the one and only job most employees there have ever had. I suppose this is a con as well because folks are set in their ways. Great work/life balance (for most positions) and flexibility for mid level/experienced/senior positions. Very concerned about customer service even though it is an oligopoly.

Cons

Poor performers (dead wood) are rewarded with the same raise as good performers. SRP rarely fires people. Most people have been there >10 yrs and it is the one and only job most employees have ever had - hired right out of HS or college and never leave. Not for profit so "it gets done when it gets done, it takes as long as it takes, and this is how we've always done it". New experienced hires will pull their hair out trying to change the culture. Very risk averse and slow to adopt new ideas or technologies.
