there is a work backlog in this economic downturn. There are several projects you could be placed on based on project specific needs. Your job is probably safe if you work conscientiously

Cons

virtually no recognition from upper management - virtually no chance of promotion - almost all management positions are filled from external sources. Annual raises fall below the increases in the cost of living. Merit raises are few and far between. If additional hours are required, and if no payment is made for the additional time work, there should be some acknowledgement of the employee's effort. Some supervisors earn less than the people in the group.

Cons

There is really no room for advancement in certain areas, and salaries are sometimes controlled by the clients.
