Pros

Passion for the mission is shared virtually universally among the employees. Virtually all mid and senior level managers are professional broadcasters and handle their business accordingly. This creates an extremely rewarding environment

Cons

Compensation can be lower than expected. There is developing a culture of, if not control, tight monitoring of various local responsibilities which detracts from the ability of local professionals to execute with excellence. Reporting performance metrics to corp support personnel on a weekly basis is totaling up to lost time with clients, pastors, community, advertisers.

Working at Salem Exceeded All Expectations

Pros

The leadership at Salem has great integrity. My supervisors are kind, fair, and supportive. Our teams are tight knit. Our salaries are comparable. Our focus and hearts are in the right place. The employees are cared for, without lowering expectations of excellent work.

Cons

In certain ways day-to-day work can be discouraging (specifically dealing with customers, readers, and viewers). But that's to be expected in any field. I couldn't support my family on my salary alone.

Pros

The best part of working here is the people. On top of that, I am now semi-retired and they give me great flexibility in taking time off to be "retired" while at the same time they indicate how pleased they are to benefit from my 52 years experience in the broadcasting business.

Cons

There could be better communication from management to employees and from administration to programming on the local level.
