Pros

Employee discount, great coworkers, employee samples

Cons

This company has got to absolutely be the worst company I have ever worked for. They change policies all the time and there’s no professionalism when it comes to upper management. Upper managerment has her own set of favorite managers so if you’re not on her good side or you don’t kiss up to her, good luck to you, your employees and your store. You get in trouble and get the blame for bad shrink even when your store’s location is in a bad area and another thing, they also threaten your job. Some goals are unrealistic and the people who are putting these new policies in place have most likely never worked retail at all or haven’t worked in one for awhile. They expect too much to pay so little. They also want PART TIMERS to have an OPEN AVAILABILITY otherwise they’re not fit for the job. This company is ridiculous. Stay far far away from Sally Beauty and if you’re planning on leaving, leave and never look back!!!!

Pros

Good insurance, 401k with 4%company match,

Cons

Limited payroll hours to successfully staff a store and provide necessary training. My store receives 80 payroll hours a week, allowing me one full time employee and 3 others varying from 10-20 hours per week. It is difficult to fill the positions offering limited hours because no one can live off of the income of such limited hours so the availability is limited and usually the employee is not fully invested to the position because instead if it being a career is it merely a means of pay the bills. They don’t feel invested or valued. It seems every quarter or so some big change comes. It feels as if there is no stability and a huge lack of communication from corporate. The times there is communication it is bombarded on you with several emails a day including retractions and changes that are difficult to keep up with. Management is constantly preached at to hold associates accountable and fire them if they are not meeting sales goals (which can be contradictive of each other). We are always reminded that no job is secure and we are replace if we don’t like it. I completely understand the need to meet goals, but don’t preach about how we are not meeting item of the month sales for a $1 packet when instead we are selling a full size of the same product for $7-10... be smart and do the math. Instead of wasting money on mistakes made by upper management or ups shipping because such and such store needs a $5 item for a customer and you need to ship it there so your store is charged a $6 pick up fee plus whatever other shipping charges incurred... no profit is made from this and it happens all the time. I used to love my job and I am a positive person who likes change, but it seems like Sally Beauty is drowning and each time they try a new failed plan they sink deeper.

Pros

Sally's has a history of being a good, stable, and profitable company. The corporate facilities are very nice, and include a subsidized cafeteria. The company offers a good work/life balance with average benefits. Above all, the company's greatest assets are the people that work there. The corporate headquarters house around 700 employees, who are friendly and pleasant. If you are a permanent employee, you can expect an average 3% raise each year at the beginning of the new fiscal year. Managers and above are given a bonus based on company earnings and title.

Cons

The company is going thru a lot of executive leadership changes. A new (outside) CEO was named at the beginning of 2015, and many older executives are retiring and are being replaced with outside leadership. Along with the leadership changes are changes trickling down throughout the company. It's yet to be seen if those changes will have a positive or negative affect on the company. The age old advice of "dance with the one that brung ya" is not being followed at SBH. It could make SBH much better, or it could be the beginnings of company instability. In the IT department, many changes are underfoot. The company has always had the philosophy of building their systems in house. That offers the ability for the company to be very reactive to changes and needs in the marketplace. Under the current leadership, the company is transitioning into a philosophy of purchasing vendor systems. The in-house developed systems are being replaced, and the company is expecting to change their business practices to adapt to the new systems.
