Pros

- Having Sandia on your resume opens doors - Work-life balance is attainable for some - Depending on your project and customer, parts procurement is less of an issue compared to industry - Group- and organization-level investment in technical training

Cons

- Despite corporate training and emphasis, diversity is lacking. That's the nature of needing a clearance and being in an engineering field. However, I'll just say anecdotally that non-Hispanic minorities had a very high turnover in the group where I worked. - The degree to which you can be integrated into the department's work depends a great deal on your coworkers. You'll most likely be stuck with man-children who only ever worked at Sandia, so anyone who's been hired in from industry will stick out like a sore thumb. I saw very little professionalism and no structure in my department. Normally, I consider that to be a good thing, but my work suffered for an utter lack of it. - The retirement plan is pretty average, and it is very easy to find places offering better matching with shorter/no vesting period. Anyone who says the benefits are a plus probably never had a job offer outside of this one institution.
