Pros

It is sort of a laid back atmosphere, which can be good and bad. I usually only work 40-45 hours a week, but have worked more when certain deadlines come along. In my position, I have a lot of freedom to choose what I want to do, and I am not stuck into one activity all day or over a longer range of time. This variety and choice is probably my favorite part of the job.

Cons

There is a long development time on the projects I have worked on. So, I rarely see something I have designed actually be completed. Also, I have worked on projects that have been cancelled midway through and that has been frustrating.

Pros

Decent pay. Chance to help national security

Cons

The best technical people can be overlooked in favor of flashy self-promoters or salespeople. Salary increases are dictated by people who have no incentive to do a good job of it.
