Pros

Solitary workday, lots of learning opportunities, keeps you active

Cons

Can be exhausting, says they don’t require OT or weekends upon interview but they basically do, pay is too little to make up for the strenuous work dah

Thank you for sharing your perspective as a newer team member. We are glad to hear that the role provides meaningful learning opportunities, autonomy throughout the workday, and the ability to stay active. These are core elements of the Plant Health Care experience and we appreciate you recognizing them. We also understand the concerns you raised regarding the physical demands of the work, scheduling expectations, and compensation. Clear communication during the interview process is critical, and your feedback reinforces the need for continued consistency and transparency across branches. We remain focused on aligning pay, workload, and scheduling practices with the realities of the role to support a more sustainable employee experience. Thank you for your contributions to SavATree. Pros

Raises come with drive over time. You can crank out books and certs to make more money than another field worker with 5 years in you. Atmosphere is amazing. Company events. Travel to other states for our top arborists. Community feeling. Feels like school you get paid to do. Great benefits. Very flexible schedule. Exciting heart pounding work.

Cons

Base starting pay for experienced workers is very low and no where close to our national average as arborists which is 60k a year. That’s 29 an hour. I make 25.50 and that’s great but not for my experience level. I should’ve started here at that. After all books are said and done. We should be earning 40 an hour easy. Our work is dangerous. It’s technical. It’s science. It’s courageous. It’s such a skilled labor. You can’t just hire anyone and say here’s a hammer start on that side. Becoming an experienced climber and getting paid what I do isn’t what I thought. I would love to see a a world where our hard working climbers made more. We are already happy to do it and I think that’s the trick. It gives guys and gals the sense of value from all backgrounds if you put in the work. So the work becomes more about pride. Being the best climber, rigger, pruner, etc. that allows our pay to be neglected a little.

Thank you for your detailed and candid feedback, and for your long standing service to SavATree. It is clear that you take great pride in your craft, and we appreciate the drive, expertise, and commitment you bring to the role. We are glad to hear that you value the atmosphere, training opportunities, community, flexibility, and the unique nature of the work. These elements are foundational to creating a strong employee experience in such a specialized and demanding field. We also hear your concerns regarding starting pay for experienced arborists and the broader compensation expectations for skilled climbing work. Your perspective reflects what many across the industry feel. This is highly technical, physically demanding, and safety critical work, and compensation should reflect that reality. We continue to evaluate pay practices, credential incentives, and market alignment to ensure we are competitive and responsive to the needs of our most experienced field professionals. Your advice on retention is well taken. Investing in proven, high performing climbers is far more effective than repeatedly training new staff. Your feedback supports the work we are doing to strengthen career pathways, recognize skill progression, and evaluate pay structures that reward expertise more consistently. We appreciate your voice, your commitment, and the impact you make on your team and the broader organization. Your input helps guide meaningful improvement.
