Pros

Savers is a for-profit Thrift Store corporation operating under Savers and Value Village in the United States. They partner with a local non-profit and solicit donations from the local community under the non-profit name and pay the non-profit a flat rate for the donated merchandise. After the non-profit has been paid the merchandise is then sorted, desirable items are sent to the sales floor to be sold for profit to the corporation, and the undesirable items are sometimes recycled or thrown into the garbage. It is a good company to work for and they are expanding in certain areas. Overall it was a nice atmosphere and a much slower pace retail then other stores. ( For example the store I managed was lucky to make $7,000 on a good day). Pay is on par with other retailers and upper management is paid decent for the position. The company tries to get involved in the community where it can, and not being traditional retail the individual stores have a lot of freedom on how we get involved in the company.

Cons

Advancement can be slow as there is usually a limited number of Savers or Value Villages in a particular area. Unlike big-box retail where there may be a few stores to move into with advancement, there may only be one or two Savers within 30 or 40 miles depending on the area. Unless someone quits or is terminated there may not necessarily be anyplace for you to advance to.
