Potential, But Too Political

Pros

Mission-driven, smart and passionate coworkers; lovely cafe with rooftop access

Cons

Teams are for too siloed, there's no cohesion at all. Coworkers and teams are quick to throw each other under the proverbial bus. At times it feels like multiple companies under one roof. The pay (for most) isn't so hot, but no one works here to get rich. Burnout is inevitable. Lean teams with limited resources are expected to do the work of more robust teams with more far more resources. Also, there's an "always on" culture. Weekend and after hour emails are rampant.

Pros

- Cushy for senior management and employees who have managed to survive 5+ years, regardless of how little or much you do - Great coworkers and peers - Decent pay if you negotiate well, but don't ever expect a raise - Pretty NYC office

Cons

Scholastic maintains an incredible brand and trust. It allows for risks, and innovation, yet leadership is much more concerned with making a few extra bucks than investing in programs that can truly support students and educators. - Not forward thinking (create for immediate need, not for future potential) - Low morale and fear of layoffs - Limited resources but high expectations - Lack of work/life balance - Lack of growth unless you leave and come back - Problem employees stay far too long while victims are forced out
