Not what you'd expect

Pros

Many of the people that work here are extremely nice. It feels good to work at a company that promotes children's literacy.

Cons

There are more than the normal share of people who are downright nasty. People that have been at the company for a long time feel entitled to treat newcomers badly. Competition between departments, even at the expense of the overall company, is encouraged. Politics are incredibly high considering the noble purpose of the company.
