Toxic work culture

Pros

Staff travel, casual working attire

Cons

- Toxic working environment with incompetent middle management and plenty of office politics. New employees are quickly influenced to disrespect incompetent managers. AFIs for incompetent bosses are repeatedly highlighted but ignored. - Lack of direction across the entire management. Lack of leadership and structure is apparent. Actions are often taken based on indecision. Management leads with fear, often overriding associate level decision without clear, logical reasoning. Most bosses have big egos and do not like it when their opinions are rejected. There is little to no guidance for new hires because some leaders are just not cut out for the position they are in. - Associates who have been there for 2-3 years act high and mighty and are very unwilling to share information, keeping knowledge to themselves and like to steal credit for other people's work. Everyone has their own idea of how they want things to be done but these are rarely translated into workable, sustainable processes. Turnover rates are very high across the entire company. - Employees are under-utilised, taking long lunch and toilet breaks. They (even bosses) come in late and leave on time.

Pros

Unlimited subload tickets The comfort of being in an airport environment

Cons

Below average pay. I strongly agree with two of the previous reviews: “So much politics. Boss don't like you then you are doomed. Always got favourite pet. Treat you like dirt. Some departments worse than others.” “Unfair treatment especially by management towards staff that are deemed outside their clique. Top management turned a total blind eye to the unfair treatment and even condone it.” This really depends on which department you are in, there are nice departments, but for my deprtment, unfortunately this was the case. Co-workers form cliques and new staff who join are not welcomed in the clique, especially if your personality is deemed as “different” from the rest. Co-workers will then start creating politics about you within the team and then to your manager and eventually the upper management, to the extent where the upper management will turn sour on you as well and start driving you to resign on your own (micromanaging, humiliating you unnecessarily in front of department meetings, ignoring you when you need their help, taking away your responsibilities, joining the office bullies, finding fault with your work even if you are performing fine, and so on). All of this happened in my case. Have tried to speak to my upper management on this issue but my feedback was ignored and immediately shot down.

Arrogant inexperienced middle managers

Pros

A fun place to do many things and learn many things

Cons

You may do many things but be aware that what you do may not add value to grow you as a professional. You may learn many things but be aware that you may not be learning the right or best practice way of doing things, some may even be borderline illegal. It's better to join as an experienced hire than a fresh graduate where you contribute to grow the company which gives a sense of achievement. Unfortunately due to the low bar of entry for those who join in the 1-2 years of the startup, many of these folks were too quickly promoted before acquiring sufficient experience, maturity or developed appropriate managerial behaviors. This results in frustration by experienced lateral hires who later join the coy and report into them - the funny thing is the lateral hires are often more skilled, more experienced, better mannered and cost lesser than these managers whom they have to report into, and can do the job of the middle-managers and much better too. The inexperienced middle managers remain in the coy simply because they have been with the coy during the startup years, however top management needs to realize this mentality cannot be allowed any longer if they want to let the coy grow. These middle managers value to the coy is actually diminishing as the company transforms to a larger setup where profiles with better background and experience are needed to take the coy to the next stage. Some of these middle managers get very arrogant because they have become 'untouchables' due to the immunity given to them by top management, consciously or unconsciously. The result is talented experience staff leave and the coy is stuck in a vicious cycle of hiring lower quality talents that can be 'subdued' by the arrogant inexperienced middle managers as they fear hiring people who are better than them.
