Pros

Thanks to the size of the company and the teams, you get to take ownership over different parts of the product and do not feel just like a small cog in a big machine, but that your work actually impacts the company. Management pushes you to improve but also supports new initiatives you bring to the table. The company is always testing out new ways to deliver better product to its users, and so you get to work on a variety of projects. Everyone is really keyed in on user empathy and you can tell that we build everything with the end user in mind. Catered meals three times a day and the coffee runs are huge perks. Quarterly bonuses are appreciated and good for morale. Also the company provides really good work life balance and is very flexible about what hours you are in office, as long as you deliver good work.

Cons

They recently changed their health insurance offerings so I'm not sure if they're quite as good as before, but in general seems good for single people but not as good for families. No 401k match and nominal stock options.

we truly appreciate your feedback. We did change medical and dental plans and we now have better plans for our employees. Both Blue Shield and Kaiser now have lower co-pays and drug prescriptions costs as well as much lower costs for emergency room visits, lower out of pocket maximums, and lower family deductibles. We pay 100% of the cost for employees and there is a 50% costs for dependents.

Pros

The software dev teams are led by one of the smartest, most effective tech managers I've encountered in 20 years. She's kind of a badass, and also has a great sense of humor. There are a lot of smart, opinionated people, who are committed to making an excellent product. And they balance all those smart opinions with respect and collaboration, which really just makes it SO much more pleasant than some companies! Finally, I really appreciate the diversity at Scribd - there's a solid mix of ethnicities and cultural backgrounds.

Cons

Scribd is still tackling some big market challenges, so we periodically have some intense work cycles.

Cons

There is no respect for knowledge, capability, or well-being. There is no opportunity for leadership positions or growth to advance, because their livelihood hangs in the balance of a dictatorship of pious judgment, amongst a team of “leadership” that are far less capable than a 5 year old fitting a square peg into a round hole. Being a female makes it particularly difficult - less chance for advancement, less respect, less communication, and more blame. This is no place for someone seeking mentorship, knowledge, or a place to achieve anything greater than lackluster experience. If you value your career, any real world experience, want to expand your skills, and make a difference, you will have much better luck elsewhere.
