Pros

Great co-workers, opportunities to learn critical care as a relatively new nurse, above average pay, sense of teamwork, easy to get help in a hurry when a patient is in trouble, ability to maintain acute care skills while also getting to know patients due to long term stays

Cons

Exceptionally high workload, still using mostly handwritten paper forms instead of updating to computers, supplies/equipment can sometimes be scarce or poorly functioning

Pros

Outstanding working environment. This has been the most cooperative, helpful, and pleasant working environment I have ever had the pleasure to work in. Everybody works towards ensuring goals are met, management is supportive, and even upper management is responsive to ideas from the rank and file. The company is expanding and doing so quickly and if you are ambitious the company facilitates you taking on responsibility and advancing your career. Those that show any kind of promise or ambition are given special projects to work on as soon as they can handle it. I have worked at large IT companies such as EDS and HP and smaller ones too, and I can honestly say I have never been happier at a job, I am excited to go to work in the mornings because I actually make an impact and I know I am helping our doctors care for our patients.

Cons

The compensation is not as great as it could be. I took a pay cut to come to Select Medical but honestly it was worth it. Also health benefits, paid time off/vacation, and such don't start until the first of the month after 60 days of employment.
