Sr Staff Appraiser

Pros

Benefits, 401k and pay are good. For a staff appraiser you work out of your home and receive internet and cell reimbursement as well as a company car.

Cons

They are shifting work away from staff appraisers. Have you driving 300 miles a day and settling total losses. When I first started I had a lot of autonomy but towards the end their was quite a bit of micro managing going on.

We appreciate your feedback and take the input of our current and former associates seriously. Sentry Insurance is constantly reviewing our claim processes to ensure they best meet the needs of our policyholders while also providing them with the best value. Over the last several years, the auto insurance market has been constantly evolving due to rapid changes in technology and increased competition. In turn, we’ve made changes to our own auto claim processes to be more responsive to our customers and provide them with a better-cost product. We understand some of these changes have been difficult on our associates. We continue to balance our process improvements with the corresponding impact on our internal workflows while always striving to make good on the promise we make to each of our policyholders—as well as to each of our associates. Pros

Best thing is the Claims adjusters and most of the front line unit managers. They for the most part are very hard working people who are trying to do their best to get a difficult job in personal auto claims done. Good 401k match, and pretty generous PTO.

Cons

Penny pinching salaries, and health insurance benefits leave you with a good amount in pocket if you have a spouse or kids. Terrible health plan. Senior Claims Leadership is disconnected and unresponsive to employee dissatisfaction in many work locations. Employee survey and year end reviews are ineffective at driving the needed cultural change with aging stodgy leadership and a younger and younger workforce. Limited advancement opportunities after 8 to 10 years in Claims. You can spend the last 25 years of your career at Sentry as a unit manager if you aren't part of the anointed inside groups.
