Pros

- Good CEO who listens, has innovative ideas and, I believe, cares about the employees and where the company is going. - Benefits- 401(k). Outstanding 401(k). Best that I’ve seen – especially in this area. - Large company. You have the opportunity to advance if you work hard enough and get to know the right people. - Bonuses. Annual salary increase and bonus. - Great vacation package. - Job security. - On-site cafeteria with pro-rated meals (at home office).

Cons

- Employee trust. Employees are called “associates”, but we aren’t treated as such. There is little employee trust. Everything is very regulated, there is usually a need to acquire at least one manager approval before any decision can be made. Even going to the on-site gym on your lunch break needed a manger sign-off at one point. - Attitude. There isn’t a willingness/openness for change from tenured employees. Attitudes can be very negative and condescending. Unwillingness for cooperation. Too many cooks in the kitchen. - Benefits – Medical. Abysmal. They made slight improvements in the last few years, but for a company this size, you would expect much, much better.

Pros

Large company with plenty of room for good people to move laterally or upward. Very stable company. Competitive wages. Beautiful location. Nice fitness center, pool, golf course.

Cons

Upper management cannot relate to workers. You are a number. Benefits have been reduced recently. Too political. There was a seemingly baseless and poorly communicated firing of a well respected director. I do not trust upper management. Employee quality of life is not a focus. They pay it lip service but there is no follow through. High turnover in some areas with seemingly no notice by upper management. Cannot change positions internally without your current manager being informed the instant you apply, lending to the loss of good people who fear repercussion and therefore look externally rather than internally. Very top heavy corporate structure but not enough good leaders. In IT it is a pressure cooker where most lower managers are "working managers" and there are no IT Lead job roles. This leads to lower quality and higher stress. IT is also very fragmented and large projects are virtually impossible to pull off.

Pros

Excellent training, good support from the home office. No caps on what you can earn.

Cons

Constantly shifting priorities and product sales focus. They like you to be a "jack of all trades" through sales of commercial insurance, life, 401(k) and group products. Very little brand awareness of Sentry, with the exception of P&C products.
