Pros

Benefits are really nice, especially the pension. Your job is pretty safe- you have to really do something bad to get fired. Work/life balance (for me) is ideal, but I know of some people who work a lot/take stuff home. The pay is decent. I like having separate vacation and sick pools, as opposed to the more common PTO policy.

Cons

Oh boy. Well it's hard to move up or around unless you know the right people. If you don't, you'll be stuck in your position for a long time. Having to work strike duty (again unless you know the right people) is a bummer. HR here is shady (creating positions for people who complain they want more money without posting it for everyone to apply for example). The programs we use are SUPER outdated- it's frustrating. No work from home (what year is it?). If it's snowing and you can't get in because SEPTA's down, you are forced to take a vacation day. Some of the managers here are terrible, though I guess you get that anywhere.

Pros

I really could not see any pros other than benefits. The pay is a joke for the type of work that you do and what you have to put up with, even the pros are negative.

Cons

Unorganized bunch of fools. Management is abusive and insecure, that show favoritism to some and abuse to others. While I trained, I was reminded that I can be fired everyday by a idiotic excuse for a trainer. They break DOT rules and safety concerns and put the public and employees at risk daily. There is no home/work balance and they fear intelligent educated people. The employees that are happy there, just don't know any better. No transit system is pristine, but SEPTA could take a lesson from other systems (NYC). I have never seen such ignorance in one place, where the slave mentality is alive and well. They can't see the forest for the trees, the only reason they exist, is because they are the only game in town. I feel sorry for the people that are enslaved there.

Pros

Lots of sleep on the job, on call but you never get called.

Cons

Boring. Managers are strict about safety, but they don't follow rules.
