Pros

A free lunch and ice cream cone once a week. I have been around long enough to have worked for some awesome companies, and this is not!

Cons

MANAGEMENT, the managers, and those that manage. Promises (i.e. Lies) made to get you onboard, and then the reality No training, even when discussed and promised during interview (see above) Too much politics - during interview - you are judged on deliverables), after hire - don't ask questions, it will be used against you (again - see above) Doing you job to the exhaltation of those you provide the service for means nothing if you don't subscribe to the dictator (or a similar smaller word) that is your manager

Pros

I can say this was my favorite job in all my career. SevOne had a 4.6 Glassdoor rating when I joined and I quickly saw why. We could be innovative and evolving, and we had a sense that the sky was the limit to what we could accomplish. I had the opportunity to make a genuine impact within my department and for the company. I was given a lot of freedom to test new ideas and push for positive change.

Cons

All the above pros diminished constantly and dramatically over time. Management became disconnected and out of touch with the genuine issues hurting the business and the people responsible for getting things done. The organization (and very true for my department) became very top heavy. The disconnect widened with each passing quarter. Continuous "new initiatives" confused priorities and diluted our ability to execute deeply. I still loved what I did, but I had to pep talk myself and my team continuously. In the end, all that we accomplished was treated as a little thing, and we were all let go.

Pros

All the best things about SevOne existed four years ago when I joined. I got to work with top notch engineers, was free to stop in and chat with the company's president, CTO, VP of development, or pretty much anyone else at any time. They listened to our ideas, and implemented the good ones. We had games nights, quarterly musical jam sessions (Garage Band) with open bar and buffer, ultimate frisbee - real camaraderie.

Cons

Bain Capital bought in, and started bloating the top. MBA's decided it wasn't necessary to hire the best engineers - greenhorns were cheaper. The executive offices were moved 350 miles north, but they still claimed to have an "open door" policy. (And there were a LOT more doors; you just couldn't get to them.) The founders lost control. We no longer had a reputation of the thickest door in IT. Quarterly Garage Band happy hours stopped. Lip service was being paid to Quality while coding time was cut. Massive layoffs of workers when bloated Bain management couldn't whip the sales team into selling as much as they wanted. The Garage Band's founding coordinator was laid off. Morale took a nose dive. Bain management decided the best way to fix it was to lay off a bunch more workers. Now they seem mystified as to why morale and sales did not improve as a consequence. "You have unlimited PTO now!" Of course if you take any, expect to be among the next group receiving pink slips. (Did I say that out loud? Just kidding.)
