Pros

The leadership in the districts and regions seem to be very helpful. They do their best for you to succeed as an agent. The CEO has made many improvements to modernize systems. It appears that she is working hard to fix many neglected areas by one or two of the prior CEOs.

Cons

Zero accountability of mistakes made by the personnel at the home office. Agents are constantly having to do the heavy lifting of home office or systematic errors in billing, underwriting, and poor customer experiences relating to claims or roadside assistance. The Claims Department (outside of the Central Region) is either very understaffed or have some poorly motivated adjusters.

We read all of our reviews and take the comments seriously. We place a great deal of responsibility on our adjusters and agents and sincerely appreciate all that they do to serve our insureds. Thank you for your feedback and service time with us.

Lip Service Only, Aimless without "consultants".

Pros

Diversity. 401k, but Shelter Insurance hasn't matched the last 4 years.

Cons

Too many chiefs (expanding in many levels of management). As other reviews have stated, just because a person's been around for a while, in no way makes that person the appropriate choice for management. The reliance on outside consultants is egregious, and has only become worse over the last few years. Hiring of any of these "consultants" into management, especially senior leadership, makes absolutely no sense - especially when it forces others out. Lose knowledge, depend on strangers. Good plan! No distinguishing performance or rewards by subsidiary companies (except for senior management). Many forced to be in the office to handle archaic manual/paper processes. Slowly shifting medical cost to employees. Pension completely eliminated! Read: benefits decreasing dramatically, pay is never inflation adjusted and still lags behind competition.
