Assistant Store Manager -

Pros

Being open 7 days a week, it makes it easy to schedule appointments or vacations without using much time.

Cons

Once you are in a retail store, you can only work within a retail store. You will work 14 hour days with no break, help, or ability to go get lunch. There is no concern for work life balance. You might get stuck with Mondays and Thursdays off. If someone calls out, you will have to work. If you are sick, you still have to go in until they could find someone to cover. If there is a blizzard, you will still be required to open the store, even in a state of emergency. Depending on your manager, you may also be forced into unethical situations.

Pros

Great benefits Good opportunity to advance Amazing network of people and resources You get to learn skills you can carry with you

Cons

Stores, especially small stores, are run on these skeleton staffs that make it nearly impossible to do all the operations work you need to and follow the corporate agenda with stupid things like lead generation. the CEO made almost 11 million last year, yet my store can't get approved for 1 full time position that would allow myself and the store manager some ability to complete tasks and not always have one of us being alone to open and close the store. This staffing model they use is outdated and going to fail especially as our competition is using better practices and knows how to undercut us in many ways.
