Pros

If you average 20 or 25 hours a week you get some paid vacation, paid holidays and time and a half on holidays if you work, which more than likely will be the case. You are always busy, so it makes the time go by fast.(except in the dead of winter in the midwest it becomes pain-stakingly boring,) I actually enjoy helping people choose colors for their homes, though to a certain extent. After an hour and a half of discussing whether they should paint their kids room "fun yellow" or "petunia pink", I have had enough. I have a baby and am nursing and manager is really nice to allow me to only work short shifts so I am not away from him for long periods of time.

Cons

If you work part time you are basically stuck working the crappy hours, nights and weekends of course. Some customers, as it is in all retail, can be very rude, strange, and downright annoying. Pay is decent, though I have been working there almost 5 years and I have a 4 yr degree in Interior Design, so in acutality I feel like I should be making more. However, the likelyhood of me finding a better job in this economy is dim, so I take what I can get. Part-timers work just as hard, if not harder than management and we see no bonus whatsoever. Having to put away the massive load of paint that comes in weekly is ton of work. Your back will get sore and you will be exhasted at the end of the day. (Though you will get buff) Despite what many people may think, there is a TON of information you need to learn regarding paint. You need to know the answers too because you will constantly be asked random questions by customers. This is why I despise the "Ask Sherwin Williams" slogan. You need to be able to multi-task well and work fast. And when it gets super busy and you are working by yourself on a sunday which is always that case at our store, it can get really overwelming and stressful. Especially when there is a line of 8 people starting at you waiting for your help.
