Pros

I can only speak for the research. If you work in any aspect of rehab science or technology or medicine, you have good enablers and career paths.

Cons

But there are also fringe research groups such as mine that are very disconnected from the goals of the organization at large.

Pros

My manager in particular is mostly accommodating with schedules. The option to work 12-hour shifts is a plus. The views of Lake Michigan can't be beat. Getting to see patients improve and be able to return home is always one of the best parts of this job in general.

Cons

Staff satisfaction is in the toilet. The amount of employees who get hired and leave in 6 months or less is astronomical. As a PCT, we are one of the lowest-paid hospitals in the city, despite HR trying to claim we are paid a "competitive salary." Many PCTs are less than a paycheck away from homelessness, despite RIC placing more responsibility on them than most hospitals do, for much less pay. Staff attendance is valued more than proper treatment/care of patients. Staffing is incredibly poor and working short-staffed is the norm. Incentives to pick up overtime shifts are a joke.
