Just avoid this place

Pros

remote work, benefits (only healthcare, no dental or vision)

Cons

This company is built as a third-party contractor for another company that made a software called Apricot. That company axed the contract with Sidekick so now Sidekick is trying to make their own version of the same software. This will not last. Avoid them. Billable work is prioritized to senior TC's, then management gets upset when, as a new hire, you don't have enough billable work. Senior TC's hate helping train new employees. They'd rather you just read through half-completed, 4-year-old Notion article and call it "training". They have a history of laying people off, basically every quarter. They laid me off, TWO WEEKS BEFORE CHRISTMAS, through an email, with only 2 weeks of severance pay, and still haven't paid me for my last 2 weeks of regular pay, beyond unprofessional and LAUGHABLE. Management and other TC's are cold, they either overwork you or give you nothing and still expect results, and don't care about your professional goals. Just avoid this place altogether.

Pros

Getting in on the ground floor of their cloud infrastructure and designing new systems.

Cons

Micromanaging, too many hats per employee, culture feeds into burnout, poorly managed expectations vs reality. Delivery is more important than repeatability and pathways to improvement. No room or encouragement for continued learning outside of compliance needs.

Move along

Pros

Adequate compensation. The company’s outlook appears positive, but there is excessive bureaucracy and task management overhead

Cons

A typical workday involves juggling many conflicting priorities assigned by the same person who later criticizes slow progress on a single task. Many tasks feel redundant, like moving items back and forth, offering a false sense of autonomy and an insult to your skillset. Suggestions for efficiency are sidelined while new tasks pile up, hindering scalability. Every task requires multiple sets of approvals from the same people, even if the approvers are the ones who assigned you the task. Automated notifications to approvers are curiously ignored, requiring constant manual follow-ups. The CEO treats any criticism like an attack and retaliates. Because of this, nobody provides any input during company meetings. Holidays are scarce, leaving you working while others enjoy time off.
