Pros

Good starting pay for someone looking to get started in the GovTech sector. The product is genuinely impressive and meets the needs of customers. Working with the platform is easy to learn, with significant depth to support complex & unique workflows. Genuinely great team of scrappy individuals on the front lines. It's a treat to work with folks who work tirelessly to help eachother succeed. The CEO is genuinely invested in the company's success and takes an active role in assisting with projects and integrations. Very good Healthcare options including Kaiser plans. Generous "unlimited" PTO policy. Truly 100% work from home with the rare office meeting now and then. Great exposure to the public sector, working with many diverse agencies and departments is valuable in networking and experience.

Cons

During my time at SimpliGov, the Pro Services dept didn't give cost of living adjustments despite being based in Sacramento, where the year over year inflation has been ~5% per CalPERS. The department didn't have a set of defined metrics or KPIs and distributed small merit increases to the very few "top performers", though this wasn't via tracked metrics and instead appeared as though raise criteria were decided upon at the time of the raise, not prior, rendering the targets invisible until too late to act upon. Sales sometimes overpromises and often fails to communicate what's been discussed or demoed, leading to awkward kickoff calls that make the Pro Services team look comically disorganized. Sales leadership is not open to feedback of this nature. The company has no green initiatives to offset its heavy use of AI. There are a handful of customers that are "poisoned apples" and everyone hopes they aren’t assigned one. Some get seemingly endless unbilled work, others engage in unpartnerlike behavior that management doesn't want to address. You don't have control over your portfolio, so you're in for a rough time if you happen to accumulate more than one of these. Frequent restructures. In 2 years, I saw 3 separate reorganizations, one of which stripped away the team I was managing, leaving me under-resourced on a complex project.
