Pros

Valley perks yet with San Francisco downtown live/work, Lots of dogs playing in the office, smart people who also break to enjoy their day, top pay/perks, people help each other, cross lanes whenever necessary to help, attentive to new hires getting them productive, small company attitude. Great product niche, narrowing the missing features every release, big customers, well funded, getting revenue, top mgmt is a part of the team, open loft workspace is incredible, analysts love the company, lots of runway for the product in the next 5 years.

Cons

Product and market demand for features is maturing. Hard to build a product when the use cases are just not defining. Working outside of HQ is the usual create-your-own-world. There is a lot of support at HQ, and its hard to be a one person office. Not many cons.

Pros

Great technical team and product in a space that’s evolving quickly. MemSQL is well-positioned to have a major impact on a large industry. The caliber of engineer is extremely high, yet the employees tend to be humble…not the most common combination but very nice to be around. Additionally, the sales team is strong and growing, with solid leadership making the company poised for continued growth. The environment is extremely collaborative, both within teams and cross-functionally. Hiring people that fit in with the company values is a point of emphasis, which means even as the company grows the culture stays intact. The work is challenging and employees are encouraged to take ownership, giving them pride in both the work that they do and in the progress that the company makes overall.

Cons

MemSQL is a mid-stage startup that has strong traction but still a lot of work ahead. While the opportunity is certainly there it’s by no means a guarantee that MemSQL will be a company that leaves its mark on the industry. Employees need to execute successfully while maintaining the vision. This means that employees need to be committed to the long-term strategy while at the same time be able to execute on tactical work in the short-term. People thinking about joining need to make sure they're committed as this type of opportunity is certainly not for everyone.
